Better Late Than Never!

I'm sorry I dropped the Friday Funnies ball this week but don't fret because here it is!

I was e-mailed this series of jokes by my lovely Aunt and I hope you enjoy them (and laugh) as much as I did!

They're called "And Then the Fight Started..."

My wife sat down on the couch as I was flipping channels.
She asked "What's on TV?"
"Dust," I replied.
And then the fight started...

-----------
When I got home last night, my wife demanded I take her someplace expensive.
I took her to the gas station.
And then the fight started...

-----------
I took my wife to dinner in a nice restaurant. The waiter took my order first.
" I'll take a steak - medium rare" I said.
He said, "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?"
"No," I replied. "She can order for herself."
And then the fight started...

-----------
A man and a woman were asleep like two innocent babies.
Suddenly, at 3 o'clock in the morning, a loud noise came from outside.
The woman, bewildered, jumped up from the bed and yelled at the man 'Holy crap. That must be my husband!'
So the man jumped out of the bed; scared and naked he jumped out the window. He smashed himself on the ground, ran through a thorn bush and to his car as fast as he could go.
A few minutes later he returned and went up to the bedroom and screamed at the woman, 'I AM your husband!'
The woman yelled back, 'Yeah, then why were you running?'
And then the fight started...

------------
After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later.
The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application.
When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office.
She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability, too.'
And then the fight started...

Don't forget to...

...Spring Forward on Sunday!

We lose an hour tomorrow so set your clocks forward tonight so you won't be late to wherever you may need to go!

Personally, I hate to spring forward because Lord knows I LOVE to sleep! Plus, it always takes me a couple of days to get used to the lost hour. I can't wait until November when I get that hour back...

Sweet Dreams!

P.S. I know I've been deficient with this week's Friday Funnies. Not to worry...I have a good one still coming!

March Clinic

I got this pic in an e-mail but I'm sure it's all over now...

So, March Clinic starts tomorrow.

I'm way excited to meet our new Stingrays and help them catch the swimming bug! But I'm also kinda sad our big kids won't be there. They'll be off making their high schools proud, I guess. We'll be doing just stroke and turn stuff but I'm real interested to see what our kids remember (and have forgotten) from last season.

I'm also outfitted and ready for the upcoming summer. New swim suit, goggles and a coaches bag. I pick mine up tomorrow but I found a few pictures here to give you all a sneak peek. It'll be purple (of course!) and have Coach Steph embroidered on top. LOVE it! (By the way, for anyone looking for new one-piece practice suits - they had a bunch at the Nike Outlet in Folsom for about $20.00. A steal if you know anything about buying practice suits...)

In other news, we've finally unveiled our new team website. Lots of Black and Gold just the way I like it! If this doesn't get you pumped for swim team, I don't know what will!

Go ahead, open that bottle!

This bottle (found here) used to belong to Thomas Jefferson and sold at a Christie's auction for $160,000.

That's right...any bottle!

Saturday February 28th marks the 10th anniversary of Open That Bottle night. Started by wine critics Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher, this 'holiday' is a time to stop worrying about when that special occasion will come to open that perfect bottle and just open it. They caution that if you keep saving that special bottle of wine for too long, it may go bad.

Mr. WB and his parents know that well. When he was born his parents bought a fantastic bottle that they promised to open when he graduated college. He graduated and they took a trip to Monterey Bay to celebrate. They opened it on the beach and lo and behold, the cork had disintegrated and the wine tasted like...pure alcohol. Super bitter and gross.

Gaiter and Brecher say that if this happens to you when you open your special bottle, grab a coffee filter and use it to drain out all the particles. Then you can enjoy drinking your wine instead of picking at it.

Here is the NPR website where I first heard about this 'holiday'.

Here
is the official website for Open That Bottle Night 2009.

Enjoy...I know we will!

Wedding Wednesday

You know what that means*...

This week I decided to blog (in pictures) about what happened before the wedding: the getting ready part. I had a great photographer and she got the most amazing shots. I hope you love them as much as I do!

As always, all the pictures are from my impressively talented wonder photographer Elley Ho of www.ElleyPhotography.com (seriously, the girl should get a cape!).

Hair, Check

Make up, Check

More primping and prettyfing!

A Bride's work is never done.

Love you, Daddy!

Doesn't my Mommy look pretty?

First, comes the undergarments and the crinny...

Then comes the garters and belt.

Dress, Check!

Shoes, Check!

Add the finishing touches...

and then it was off to the church!

*Ok, I've made a decision to alternate this feature every week. There are just too many pictures to upload. I hope you all don't mind! :)

Hey Oscar...

It's Oscar time! And as always, I am super excited! I love watching who wearing what, who shows up with whom, who's gonna win and rooting (and lamenting) for my favorite actors. This year, with help from my bro and prima, I was able to watch quite a few Oscar Nominees without even leaving my couch. Thanks, guys.

Therefore, in the spirit of Oscar season and with a bit of nostalgia for my hometown, I decided to make a few predictions of my own. I used this ballot I found on AOL.com to pick just a few of my favorite categories and the ones I know the best. I'm crossing my fingers...

Best Picture
'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'
'Frost/Nixon'
'Milk'
'The Reader'
'Slumdog Millionaire'
And the winner is...
This is really hard because I loved Ben Button, but Slumdog has fantastic momentum coming out of the Golden Globes. I think I have to go with 'Slumdog Millionaire.'

Best Director
Danny Boyle 'Slumdog Millionaire'
Stephen Daldry 'The Reader'
David Fincher 'The curious case of Benjamin Button'
Ron Howard 'Frost/Nixon'
Gus Van Sant "Milk'
And the winner is...
Danny Boyle. He does a fantastic job of making a vivid movie...vivid colors, vivid acting, vivid sound.

Best Actor
Richard Nixon 'The Visitor'
Frank Langella 'Frost/Nixon'
Sean Penn 'Milk'
Brad Pitt 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'
Mickey Rourke 'The Wrestler'
And the winner is...
Mickey Rourke. I just want to see him thank his dogs again! :)

Best Actress
Anne Hathaway 'Rachel Getting Married'
Angelina Jolie 'The Changeling'
Melissa Leo 'Frozen River'
Meryl Streep 'The Reader'
Kate Winslet 'Revolutionary Road'
And the winner is...
Kate Winslet. She is such an amazing actress that I am really rooting for her to finally get some gold.

Best Supporting Actor
Josh Brolin 'Milk'
Robert Downey Jr. 'Tropic Thunder'
Philip Seymour Hoffman 'Doubt'
Heath Ledger 'The Dark Knight'
Michael Shannon 'Revolutionary Road'
And the winner is...
Heath Ledger, hands down. He was fantastic and he was taken too young. A combination sure to earn him a nod form the Academy.
(source)

Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams 'Doubt'
Penelope Cruz 'Vicky Christina Barcelona'
Viola Davis 'Doubt'
Taraji P. Henson 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'
Marisa Tomei 'The Wrestler'
And the winner is...
I'm still on the fence with this one. I really like Marisa and her portrayal of a stripper with a heart of gold was great but I have to give it to Taraji P. Henson. She was fantastic in Ben Button and you loved her from the moment she spotted a baby on her doorstep.
(source)

Best Song
"Down to Earth" Wall-E
"O Saya" Slumdog Millionaire
"Jai Ho" Slumdog Millionaire
And the winner is...
I think that it'll go to Slumdog but I'm holding out for Wall-E!

Best Original Score
'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'
'Defiance'
'Milk'
'Slumdog Millionaire'
'Wall-E'
And the winner is...
It's between Ben Button and Wall-E for me and I would be happy with both. If I had to pick one it would be Ben Button.

And now, for my favorite category of the night!

Best Animated Feature
'Bolt'
'Kung-fu Panda'
'Wall-E'
And the winner is...
Is it really a contest? Sorry, Wall-E is number 1 in my book!

Have fun watching tonight, guys. I know I will - popcorn and all!

It's an End of Year party!

Confused, yet? I know what you're thinking. "Huh? What are you talking about? 2009 just started!" Well, let me explain...

Since Mr. WB works for a company that deals with payroll and taxes and other financial matters during Christmas time, he doesn't get a Christmas party. Work is way too crazy at that time. Instead the company throws an 'End of Year' party for all it's employees after w-2's go out and before all the tax stuff starts rolling in.

That's where we'll be this weekend, partying it up with most of the mister's co-workers. The party will be held at Arden Hills and from what we've heard (we missed last year's) is always lots of fun. The food is supposed to be really yummy and there will be lots of dancing.

I'm a little confused on the attire, however. Black-tie or Blue jeans are our options. It's such a broad (and crazy) spectrum, I'm going to have to really search my closet to figure out what I will wear.

Hopefully I'll choose correctly and will have plenty of fun pics to show you when we get back!

Friday Funnies

Because I love to laugh, I am going to try to start a feature on this here blog called Friday Funnies*. I'll probably post something that catches my eye, a joke or a cool website or even a comic that I've come across on the internet.

This week I'm giving you a taste of a hilarious blog I check in on everyday. It's called Pundit Kitchen and it's basically a political blog very much in the vein of LOL cats or Fail Blog. It allows it's readers to add captions to the pictures it posts. These are a few from the past week that I just loved! Enjoy!

*This feature will probably run on alternating weeks with Wedding Wednesday, which will be back next week.

Stingray Sign-ups - Part 1

This picture was taken Fall 2007. It's one of my favorites.

I can't believe it's here already? We're at the very tip of the starting point of Stingray Season 2009. It feels like August was just here, and the season just ended (that could also be because Fall season did just end but, whatever). We had our first day of sign-ups a couple of weekends ago, and I think it went really well. We had a lot of new faces wanting to become Stingrays and so far the season's looking like it'll be tons of fun.

There are so many fun things planned for our swimmers this season. We have parties and movie nights and camp outs (that's what I'm looking forward to the most) not to mention all our swim meets and championships.

Everyone seems real glad the season is finally starting. After all the rainy days we've been having the kids are dying to get out in the fresh air...I even saw some in the pool today! Taking advantage I guess...

We have one more weekend of sign-ups - March 7, and I'm excited to see who'll show up to that one. Let's go for another undefeated season, Stingrays!

Guess what starts tomorrow....

I AM SOO EXCITED!! This is my absolute favorite game show in the world. I can't wait to see the new cast (and pick my favorites) and I know my 'lil bro will be watching so even though we're far apart we'll be likethis! Shout out to AJ...teammates forever!

And the winner is...

What a day! It was mostly my idea to go watch the Tour of California today but despite Mr. WaterBaby's initial resistance I think we both had a blast! It was fun to see all the big names blow past us at high speeds. We ended up snagging a primo spot on the route...on the corner turn where 9th and L st meet. It was a pretty amazing opportunity because unlike most stages (where the peloton goes by in a split second) the racers started 30 to 60 seconds apart and we saw riders race past us for almost 2 straight hours. Not only did we see Lance, but we saw George Hincapie, Levi Leipheimer, Fabian Cancellara, Mark Cavendish, Carlos Sastre, Floyd Landis (3 weeks out of his 3 year suspension) and Ivan Basso (also just released from suspension). It was pretty cool to be thisclose to former and defending Tour de France and stage winners from where we were watching!

We had the most am amazing time...maybe I can talk the mister into going tomorrow too!

By the way, it was Fabian Cancellara who won the prologue...in case you were wondering. :)

It's Valentine's Day...

We're geeks at heart! (source)

Happy Valentine's Day!

I like this holiday, despite it's creation by the greeting card company. And this one is shaping up to be a pretty good one. There are a few things I'd like to blog about that pertain to this V-day.

First, this is a really special Valentine's day for the Waterbabies. It's our first married Valentine's Day! Yay! I am so excited about the card I purchased for Mr. WB. It's from Hallmark but I didn't mind spending a little extra for such a great card. Unfortunately, I sealed the card before I got a good picture of it. :( We'll see if I can snap a photo when he opens it. I added the card to a little bag with a Starbucks card and my traditional V-day gift to Mr. WB...new boxers. The perfect mix of practical and sweet. Like him!

What are we doing to celebrate you might ask? For lunch I snagged this easy, and tasty, recipie for Tomato Basil Bisque and heart-shaped grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm excited I'll be making it all from scratch, it'll be yummy! And later today we're going to watch the Amgen Tour of California. I am really excited to see Lance Armstrong, Levi, George Hincapie and all the other cyclists do their thang on the street's of our Capitol. My Dad religiously watched the Tour de France since before I can remember and devoured It's Not About the Bike during his fight with Colon Cancer, so I will be forever grateful to Lance for helping and inspiring my dad throughout his struggle.

I think that'll be out day, the rest of it will be very quiet...maybe we'll make dinner together later? It's still up in the air. Until later, I'll leave you with one of my favorite Valentine poems from when I was a child. It's from a book by Jack Prelutsky.

It's Valentines Day,
and in the street
there's freezing rain,
and slush, and sleet,
the wind is fierce,
the skies are gray,
I don't think I'll
go out today.

But here inside,
the weather's warm,
there's no trace
of wind or storm
and you just made
my morning shine -
you said you'd be
my Valentine!

Happy Friday the 13th!

It's Friday the 13th today and I'm wishing everyone loads of luck!

I've always thought Friday the 13th's (heretofore referred to as Ft13) were pretty cool and I've never experienced bad luck on these days. Some years I've felt luckier and others I've felt like "ehh...it's just another day" but I don't ever remembering having a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad day* (2 points if you get that reference). What's unusual about this year is that we have two months in a row that have a Ft13, March 2009 has one as well. We usually have at least 2 in a year but this year we have them back to back, and if I'm not mistaken we have a third as well...Yup, November 2009 has one two.

Crazy! Y'know Ft13's always make me think of that movie Freaky Friday. Not the new one, the original with Jodie Foster. Do you know what I'm talking about? I remember really liking it but at the end where the Dad and little brother switch places, I always felt bad since the "magic" wore off at Midnight. They were going to be stuck like that for awhile...and that made me sad.

Anyway, I wish you all lots of luck on this, for some, unluckiest of days! And, you got to ask yourself one question, do I feel lucky? Well do you...Punk?** (5 bonus points if you get that one too!)

*I think I read this book in the first grade and I LOVED it!
**Does it really need explanation?

Movie Night

Tonight I'm joining a few of my friends (and yes, I said friends, even if I haven't yet met some of them in real life) for a girls-only movie night! We're going to see "He's Just Not That Into You."

Image from here.

I never read the book, nor did I ever see the Sex and the City show/episode it was inspired from (Oh, the horror!). But I do understand that this might be helpful to some women, and some men, to read and implement*. I am excited to see the ladies and see how the screenwriters turned a self-help book into a movie with an amazing cast! Even if I don't need the lesson the book teaches I can't wait to watch some of my fav. beautiful people for 2 hours! I can't wait to meet with you ladies!** And in fact, if I don't publish this soon I may very well be late!

See you later...and if you're lucky there might just be a recap in it for you...

*As I read this I can see how this may give a holier than thou feeling, but I promise I don't mean to give a skeezie feeling at all. It's just a wierd sentence. I promise.
**We'll miss you Patty!

It's Wednesday...

Happy Hump Day! Since the middle of the week is always always seems the longest I thought I'd do my best to liven things up a bit.

Welcome to Wedding Wednesday!

While it's not quite a recap I'd like to post my photos so I can decide my favs and get a head start on my Wedding album. Plus, I can think of a few people who have been begging for more pics! I'll start off slow with detail pics...enjoy!

(All Pictures are courtesy of our fabu photographer extraordinaire Elley Ho of Elley Photography. She is awesome!)

Invite only....but you still get a peek! :) Oh, and that's the clip that went in my hair.

Our Guestbook...

and...

our Candy Buffet...a big hit! Almost every bowl was empty at the end of the night.

This is the centerpiece from the Bridal Party's table. The Bridesmaids table to be exact. The Groomsmen were seated on the other side of our table.

Our Sweetheart table. The peacocks were donated for the evening by my grandmother. There were also some on the cake table, too. I love her.

...and from above.

Our cake table was decorated with the Bridesmaid bouquets and you can see our toasting flutes and serving set, too. As well as...our melty cake. We were indoors but I guess the 105 degrees killed my cake anyway. We were saved by some fast thinking friends of my parents and our Dinner Captain. The icing had almost melted off and it was leaning dangerously to the right but he whisked our cake into their freezer with just enough time.

A close up of the melty-ness. And our topper.

And that was our night!
I love this picture. At this point I had given up on my cute shoes!

I can't wait for next Wednesday! What should I "recap" next? These are just a few detail pics should I show more? Our gifts to each other, getting ready or formal pics? Should I go in order or just post randomly? Thoughts...

I'm such a slacker...

I found this cutie here.

I haven't updated my blog in hella* days. I apologize but I just got really frustrated and (ok, ok I'll admit it) really lazy! But, I intend to get better and I will update more often. I'm entering a busier time in my life so I'm sure I'll have more to blog about soon. I just wanted to assure you (mom, my faithful reader) that I haven't forgotten you!

*I used hella, does that make me an official Nor Cal resident? Becasue I know fer sure we never used that term at home...

The Obama Nation

(source)

Yes we can! I am so uplifted to live in this nation today. I watched all morning with tears of joy running down my face. His daughters looked so proud of their daddy and his wife...I don't think you need to be a wife to understand how proud Michelle must be today.

I am proud of us as well. Of a nation that just four years ago we were so unhappy with and its process that didn't listen to its people. Well, it worked this time! It is so amazing to me that the day we have been waiting for, for 120 days is finally here. That finally we are being led by a smart man, a man that won an election after hard work and NOT through friends in high places.

My daddy would have loved to be here today and he was here...I saw him. I saw him in our new President. That wink he gave his kids, his soothing yet strong voice...I remember that. I can't wait to see where this man who reminds me so much of my Dad (a man I miss so much) will take our country. I can't wait to see what the next four (eight, I should say!) years will bring for this amazing man, his family and and our great nation.

Yes we can!
